There is a noticeable difference between those two terms when it comes to becoming a better improviser or soloist on the guitar.
Today we will distinguish the differences.

What's a beginner guitar soloist?
A complete beginner guitar improviser/ soloist knows only the barre minimum on the guitar.
Here are some of the things s/he knows:
major scale
minor scale
minor pentatonic
some basic open chords
chromatic scale
basic improvisation over a simple backing track (using major scale, minor scale or minor pentatonic)
An intermediate guitar soloist?
To transition into becoming an intermediate guitar player/ soloist, you need to know some good stuff.
Some of the things you need to know as an intermediate:
everything above (as a beginner)
major pentatonic
minor pentatonic and major pentatonic all 5 positions on the neck
major scale modes
major scale modes all positions on the neck
know the construction and use of triads on the neck
know some arpeggios
knows the blues scale
knows to improvise over a blues backing track
compose some simple chord progressions
knows how to create intervals on guitar
These are some of the things a true intermediate soloist knows.
There's quite a difference between a beginner and an intermediate as you see now!
Which one are you - beginner or intermediate?
So which one are you?
Don't worry!
Even if you know nothing, this blog will help you to learn the stuff you need to pass the beginner threshold and move into intermediate territory.
This blog is primarily aimed at the intermediate level because it's not that hard to be a beginner guitarist. It takes a year or two of dedicated practice to move into the lower intermediate level. And then some years when you stay a true intermediate.
Most important thing is to advance as you like. Yes, it takes time, but when you practice diligently every day or two, you will most definitely progress greatly.
Good luck!
