Yamaha is a great company that makes superb guitars for rather inexpensive price.
The Yamaha Revstar RS820 is discontinued but you can get a similar sound from the newest production line they manufacture and sell.
Here's a photo of my Revstar and I'm very satisfied with the quality, sound and play-ability!

Tone
I love the tone of this guitar. It can do many genres - blues, rock, fusion, metal, etc.
The pickups shine with medium gain/ distortion tones. If you are interested in progressive metal, it can do it with some tone tweaking. But it's quite hard to do very heavy metal because I feel that the pickups are not suited for that.
The pickups are mostly suited for rock I guess.
Btw, it has two humbuckers. And I love that.
I mostly choose the neck position pickup configuration. It sounds more balanced than the bridge pickup.
Play-ability
The built quality is great too for an Indonesian made guitar.
It's not perfect (if there is such a thing) but I don't have any big issues with the comfort of playing this Yamaha Revstar RS820 guitar.
The neck is well-made and smooth - not too fat not too thin.
Frets are polished okay, action is just right.
I'm not too much of a fast shredder but I guess you can shred on this guitar easily. For example, Matteo Mancuso played for a while the RS820 a couple of years back. And he's quite a technical player and a fast player. Check him out here on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qe3wjMScMjI
Body is not too heavy for me too. It resonates well and I like the wood combination.
Built Quality
It is made in Indonesia and I have no big issues with that.
But there are some little flaws with the Revstar. For example, the connection (the screw) for the input jack gets loose very frequently. I have to use a screwdriver often.
The tuners are also flawed - the guitar gets out of tune quite often.
Other than that, everything is okay for me.
Quick summary
I love this guitar but I would like another guitar that does heavier gain sounds more easily as the RS820 doesn't go too much into that tone.
As I said, the dual humbuckers are more suited for less gainy tones - rock, blues, fusion. But if you want a djent tone or modern prog metal, you have to look for a backup guitar.
